Science fiction tanks and APCs

I painted up some 15mm armor to accompany my science fiction foot troops.  These are Khurasan tanks and RAFM wheeled APCs.  I have 2 more of the APCs to do, plus extra turrets to make them fire support vehicles.  I’ve included some fluff descriptions in the captions, for my scifi setting, and a description at the end of how I painted them.  Thanks for looking!

Bug Hunt---15mm sci fi AAR

We played a great game of No Stars in Sight today, with human troops (of the United Nations of Earth and Mars Army) on a bug hunt.  The humans have to eliminate several bug nests, while the bugs must defend these nests and try to destroy the human attackers.  The game was ultimately a narrow human victory, with 2 of 3 bug nests knocked out.  Human losses were 6 dead; bug losses were 40+.

US Marines in 15mm

I'm embarking on wargaming the Pacific Theater in WWII.  First painted for this project is a platoon of late war US Marines.  All figures are by Resistant Roosters.

ClearHorizons 15mm elite infantry

I just painted up a small batch of the Hell Diver special forces infantry by ClearHorizon Miniatures.  These are beautiful sculpts, very clean, with a wide variety of poses.  I intend to use them as slick corporate mercenaries---hence the variety of colors.  These guys will be working for the Tokoto Corporation in a scenario book I'm working on for No Stars in Sight.  Thanks for looking!

20mm Modern Insurgents and Iraqi Police

I recently finished a commission for a force of modern insurgents, in 20mm scale.  They are a mix of Elhiem, Liberation, Stan Johansen Miniatures, and Caesar Miniatures (which are soft plastic).  They're based on US pennies and painted in a varied mix of civilian clothing and generic military camo.  Thanks for looking!

Kursk assault---6mm Eastern Front playtest of A Sergeant's War

I played through another test of my rules, A Sergeant's War.  Today's game was a German assault on a prepared Soviet position during the Battle of Kursk, July '43.  The result was a costly German victory.

Eastern front tank action---A Sergeant's War playtest

I ran another playtest of A Sergeant’s War, my WWII rules-in-development.  Today’s game was a test of the armor/vehicle rules.  We played 2 games in about 90 minutes, each one with about 16 vehicles in total, Germans vs. Soviets, in 6mm scale.

In the first game, a company of T-34s advanced on 3 Pz IV-Hs and a single Tiger.  The Germans gave one half of the company a shellacking—knocking out 4 of 6 tanks—but on the other flank, the T-34s got in close and made mincemeat of the Germans at close range.  The Germans withdrew, with one Pz IV knocked out, one abandoned, the Tiger damaged and abandoned, and the remaining Pz IV retreating.

Security Droids, 15mm Shapeways Robots

I finished 2 squads of TheLazyOne's 15mm robots at Shapeways, with one squad in aqua-blue and the other in red.  I intend them as security droids for games of No Stars in Sight.  They carry a mix of small arms and heavier weapons--missile pods, energy weapons, and what looks like a heavy machine gun or a grenade launcher.  I painted them up to be used robots---chipping, wear, and dust abound.

I photographed them and adjusted the exposures in a couple different ways.

After Action Report: Small unit action in the Hurtgen

I playtested my rules, A Sergeant’s War, again tonight. This was a generic scenario set somewhere in the Hurtgen Forest, November 1944.  An understrength American platoon has been ordered to clear a ridgeline of German resistance.  AAR and some discussion of the rules below.

Into the Hurtgen

I am writing a scenario/campaign book for the Battle of the Hurtgen Forest in WWII—I’ve been having a great time researching and am up to about 25 scenarios in 5 campaigns (which can be strung together as one long campaign).  Tentatively titled Meat Grinder, I plan to publish it in early 2015.

15mm Shapeways robot

So, after seeing these 15mm robots on Facebook, I went over to Shapeways and bought a set.  They're a bit fragile, but otherwise I was blown away by the quality of the sculpts and the posing.  I couldn't wait and quickly painted up one.  More text below the pics.

Another wargaming blog! Huzzah!

Rebel Minis Sahadeen and converted Matchbox toys
Hi! This is the inaugural post for my wargaming blog, The Dog's Brush.  After several years of posting pictures to various forums (fora?), I have decided to consolidate my stuff into one place.  I plan to post about wargaming generally (battle reports, projects, and tutorials), the wargames that I write and design, and pictures of miniatures I paint on commission.

6mm WWII, by Heroics and Ros
My wargaming interests include:
World War II
Unconventional/insurgency wars (French Indochina, Vietnam, War on Terror)
American Civil War (especially Longstreet)
Science fiction gaming in 15mm

My wargaming design interests are currently on WWII, moderns, and science fiction---I'm in the process of writing a WWII game called A Sergeant's War, and updates about that game will be available here.

Since this is a gaming blog, who would I be to not post more pics of gaming stuff? Thanks for looking. I hope to get more updates in as the weeks progress.

(PS: If you're in the Rio Grande Valley area of Texas and want to get in a game, message me!)
