15mm sci-fi forces for Millennium Con

These will be the human forces for my game at Millennium Con this year: a mix of California militia, United Nations of Earth and Mars Special Forces, combat droids, and vehicles.  Lots of manufacturers here: Matchbox (the tracked APCs, modified); Darkest Star (several of the droids and the wheeled tank); Khurasan (power armor, a few militia) and some of the droids); Rebel Minis (a few of the insurgents); and Oddzial Osmy (most of the militia).

More pics and some gamer-fluff below. Thanks for looking!

The Amalgam War---Clash on the Fringe AAR

Here is a battle report of a game of Clash on the Fringe a weekend or two ago.  The setting is my own, the fluff background I intend for my own upcoming sci-fi game.  Earth is in the grips of an invasion by the Amalgam, a biological infestation that behaves like an invasive species in an ecosystem, before ultimately evolving into a full-fledged military force (think the Chtorr crossed with the Borg crossed with the Posleen). The models are a mix of Ground Zero Games, Ravenstar, converted Games Workshop, and Khurasan.  Pictures below.

All Quiet on the Martian Front

I'm painting some stuff as part of the Fall In Toys for Tots painting auction, and here's the first batch of stuff: US infantry and steam tanks for All Quiet on the Martian Front.  For anyone interested in commission work, I can do figures and troops to the standards photographed below for the following prices:
Infantry, $1.25 each
Steam Tanks, $12 each or three for $30 (I will assemble them for a small extra charge)

The Mk IIIs (left) are painted in a sort of faux-caunter/dazzle scheme; the tanks on the right (Mk IIs) have a simple green/sand camo pattern

Extermination Protocol: Nordic Weasel Games photoshoot

I've been asked by the illustrious Ivan of Nordic Weasel Games to do a photo shoot for his upcoming bug-hunt game Extermination Protocol.  Here are the results.  Infantry are Ground Zero Games US Army in Hardsuits; bugs are Ravenstar Miniatures Horrid.

15mm painting tutorial

Here is a brief tutorial on the methods I use to paint.  The model is a 15mm Ground Zero Games figure, but I use the same system on 20mm and 28mm figures, and something similar for 6mm/micro armor.

Aliens, droids, and power armor: Off World playtest

Another playtest of "Off World" today---this time featuring the alien invaders known as The Amalgam, a polyglot force of symbiotic life forms, genetically engineered monsters, and worse--vs. human special forces, droids, and powered armored infantry.  There are some things I still need to tweak---but the game's playing well and the various stats and special rules are really making unusual, sci-fi-y forces stand out from regular troops.

Off World: Sample of play video

I am making good progress in writing Off World, the sci-fi version of my WWII rules.  I thought that a play-by-play would be useful, so that players can see how the game plays and get a feel for basic infantry combat.  And THEN I thought, what if I made a video version? So here is my directorial and narratorial (?) debut:

Logging Road 2-16, Kyushan Highlands, Kyushu---Off World AAR

Hey all---we got another playtest of Off World in today. The United Nations of Earth and Mars Army, having taken over the occupation duties on the colony world of Kyushu after the UN Marines took control of the coast, are now moving into the highlands to pursue the shattered Kyushan Armed Forces.  The KAF has deployed militia troops and droid forces to cover their withdrawal.

Vietnam, 2148 A.D.---Science Fiction playtest

I just finished the first playtest of Off World, the sci-fi version of my WWII rules A Sergeant's War.  Fluff and details, with pics, below.  The playtest went well; I know some things that will need more changing from the WWII version, to make the game "feel" more like a hard sci-fi battle.

Science fiction tanks and APCs

I painted up some 15mm armor to accompany my science fiction foot troops.  These are Khurasan tanks and RAFM wheeled APCs.  I have 2 more of the APCs to do, plus extra turrets to make them fire support vehicles.  I’ve included some fluff descriptions in the captions, for my scifi setting, and a description at the end of how I painted them.  Thanks for looking!

Bug Hunt---15mm sci fi AAR

We played a great game of No Stars in Sight today, with human troops (of the United Nations of Earth and Mars Army) on a bug hunt.  The humans have to eliminate several bug nests, while the bugs must defend these nests and try to destroy the human attackers.  The game was ultimately a narrow human victory, with 2 of 3 bug nests knocked out.  Human losses were 6 dead; bug losses were 40+.

ClearHorizons 15mm elite infantry

I just painted up a small batch of the Hell Diver special forces infantry by ClearHorizon Miniatures.  These are beautiful sculpts, very clean, with a wide variety of poses.  I intend to use them as slick corporate mercenaries---hence the variety of colors.  These guys will be working for the Tokoto Corporation in a scenario book I'm working on for No Stars in Sight.  Thanks for looking!

Security Droids, 15mm Shapeways Robots

I finished 2 squads of TheLazyOne's 15mm robots at Shapeways, with one squad in aqua-blue and the other in red.  I intend them as security droids for games of No Stars in Sight.  They carry a mix of small arms and heavier weapons--missile pods, energy weapons, and what looks like a heavy machine gun or a grenade launcher.  I painted them up to be used robots---chipping, wear, and dust abound.

I photographed them and adjusted the exposures in a couple different ways.

Thanks for looking!

15mm Shapeways robot

So, after seeing these 15mm robots on Facebook, I went over to Shapeways and bought a set.  They're a bit fragile, but otherwise I was blown away by the quality of the sculpts and the posing.  I couldn't wait and quickly painted up one.  More text below the pics.
