Into the Hurtgen

I am writing a scenario/campaign book for the Battle of the Hurtgen Forest in WWII—I’ve been having a great time researching and am up to about 25 scenarios in 5 campaigns (which can be strung together as one long campaign).  Tentatively titled Meat Grinder, I plan to publish it in early 2015.

I am doing a lot of the playtesting in 6mm, because it’s cheap, saves space, and is easy to set up. I have the American infantry painted—the equivalent of 2 platoons, with BARs, .30 cal LMGs, and bazookas painted.  The squad leaders are independently based (on triangles), as leaders are important in A Sergeant’s War.

I am also beginning to build the forest.  Most the Hurtgen was hard wood and evergreens.  Here’s my first wave of trees.  I’ll need to figure out an easy way to do undergrowth in 6mm, besides just scattering coarse flock.  The brown fabric will be my base; I plan to weather it with spraypaints and pastels to get a worn, muddy, late fall/early winter look.
